. dia 05/09/2007- Dia do meu 50º aniversário !!!
A partir de Londres, em direção a Windsor, no ônibus 702, num percurso de aproximadamente 1 hora.
Windsor é uma cidade encantadora, na margem do Rio Tâmisa, 32 km a oeste de Londres, dominada pelo magnífico Castelo de Windsor, construído há mil anos e, desde então, residência dos monarcas ingleses – “Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen”.
Poderia haver lugar mais “in” para se comemorar meio século de vida ???
Windsor é onde a Família Real passa os seus fins de semana, sendo, deste modo, o maior castelo habitado do mundo.
E, ainda, onde comemorei meu aniversário de 50 anos !!!
Começamos a conhecer Windsor num City Sightseeing, a bordo de um “open-top bus outside Windsor Castle”.
Na sequência deste tour panorâmico por Windsor, almoçamos no Bella Italia e depois seguimos para uma visita ao “The Official Residences of The Queen” & “The Official Residence of The Prince of Wales” – Windsor Castle.
Os destaques do Castelo incluem os State Apartments e Waterloo Chamber, uma sala construída para comemorar a vitória britânica sobre Napoleão em Waterloo.
St. George’s Chapel is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England. The building was started in 1475 by Edward IV and took fifty years to construct. It is the Chapel of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Britain’s highest order of chivalry founded by Edward III in 1348. Members are selected by The Sovereign and include foreign monarchs and previos Prime Ministers. Ten monarchs are buried in the Chapel, including Edward IV, Henry VIII with his favourite wife Jane Seymour, Charles I, George V and Queen Mary and George VI. Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother is also buried here, along with her younger daughter Princess Margaret. Beyond St. George’s Chapel is the entrance to the Albert Memorial Chapel, converted by Queen Victoria as a memorial to her husband Prince Albert who died in 1861.

The plaque is engraved with the famous words from the poem

 

“God only knows” by Minnie Louise Haskins,

 

which George VI used in his radio broadcast on Christmas Day 1939.
Muitas salas do castelo tem peças de arte fabulosas, incluindo pinturas, tapeçarias, porcelanas, esculturas e armaduras.
Os 200 hectares do Home Park ficam na parte de trás do Castelo e incluem o Sítio de Frogmore, onde a Rainha Vitória e o Príncipe Albert foram sepultados.
Depois, fica o enorme Windsor Great Park.
Na outra margem do rio fica Eton College, o mais famoso colégio inglês, fundado por Henrique I, em 1440, ainda hoje os alunos vão a aula usando terno.
O parque temático Legoland é atualmente uma das maiores atrações de Windsor e de toda a região.
A troca da guarda acontece às 11 horas e é muito similar à do Palácio de Buckingham, só que com o batalhão de guardas a pé.
Retornamos de trem de Windsor até Waterloo e daí pegamos o ônibus 507 até Victoria.
